The Horizontal Test Cryomodule (HTC) will be a muti-cavity test device able to test RF cavities in the horizontal position with installed FPC (Fundamental Power Coupler), in an environment as close as possible to the final configuration of use.You will play a critical role in mechanical design, calculation, procurement and assembly working closely with senior engineers, designers, and technicians to ensure the successful development and construction of the cryomodule. The role will involve collaboration with various CERN teams, above all the Systems Department, Radiofrequency team, which is in charge of developing the FCC-ee RF cryostat and the Technology Department, Cryogenics team.Responsibilities:Contribute to design solutions for the main components of the cryomodule, including supports for cavities.Assess the mechanical design of the main components (vacuum vessel, thermal shield, cryogenic lines) against the requirements of the CERN safety Rules and the European applicable regulations and technical standards.Prepare the heat budget of the HTC cryomodule.Support part procurement, quality control, logistic, cryostat assembly in CERN’s workshops and assembly facilities.Your profileSkillsDesign and analysis of mechanical structures by finite-element and analytical methods.Knowledge and application of numerical modelling in solid mechanics.Knowledge of 3D modelling software.Knowledge of design codes and compliance verification of mechanical equipment: including steel structures and pressure vessels.Basic knowledge of cryogenics would be an advantage.Spoken and written English or French, with a commitment to learn the other language.Eligibility criteria:You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State .You have a professional background in Mechanical Engineering (or a related field) and have either:aMaster’s degree with 2 to 6 yearsof post-graduation professional experience;or aPhD with no more than 3 yearsof post-graduation professional experience.You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.Additional InformationJob closing date:29.05.2025 at 23:59 CEST.Contract duration: 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.Working hours: 40 hours per weekTarget start date: 01-July/August-2025This position involves:A valid driving licence.Work during nights, Sundays and official holidays, when required by the needs of the Organization.Job reference: EN-MME-EDM-2025-66-GRAPField of work: Mechanical EngineeringWhat we offerA monthly stipend ranging between6287and 6911Swiss Francs per month (net of tax).Coverage by CERN’s comprehensivehealth scheme(for yourself, your spouse and children), and membership of the CERNPension Fund.Depending on your individual circumstances: installation grant; family, child and infant allowances; payment of travel expenses at the beginning and end of contract.30 days of paid leave per year.On-the-job and formal training at CERN as well as in-house language courses for English and/or French.About usAt CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe.
