Le campus de l’EPFL offre un cadre de travail exceptionnel au cœur d’une communauté de plus de 17’000 personnes, dont près de 12’500 étudiant-e-s et 4’000 chercheur-euse-s issu-e-s de plus de 120 nationalités différentes.Research Ethics Compliance OfficerMissionThe EPFL Research Office (ReO) is seeking a Research Ethics Compliance Officer to support EPFL’s research community with ethics and compliance aspects of research projects that are within the scope of the Swiss Federal Act on Research involving Human Beings. The candidate is an individual with proven competence in ethics compliance related to scientific research. She/he will have excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a dynamic team.Principales tâches et responsabilitésTasks and responsibilities include:

• Support EPFL principal investigators and ReO Programme Managers to ensure ethics compliance of their research involving humans (for example, identification of ethics issues and guidance relating to the submission of ethics applications to the cantonal ethics commissions).
• Develop guidance documents and resources on the ethics compliance regulations/legal framework and organize awareness-raising initiatives, training and workshops.
• Provide support on specific questions relating to ethics compliance of their research projects that fall within the scope of the Federal Act on Research involving Human Beings.
• Support for the activities of the EPFL Human Research Ethics Committee.
• Support for other tasks within the Ethics Affairs unit.

ProfilThe ideal candidate for the Research Ethics Compliance Officer position will possess several of the following:

• Master’s degree in a relevant field (additional certifications and licenses in relation to ethics compliance and data protection will be considered a strong asset).
• Solid knowledge and expertise about the Federal Act on Research involving Human Beings and its application.
• Ability to analyse and understand research projects in relation to the Federal Act on Research involving Human Beings.
• Ability to explain the legal framework and ethics compliance regulations on research involving humans to others who are not necessarily familiar with this area of work.
• Experience in preparing and developing guidance documents and tools/resources for a broad audience.
• Excellent collaboration skills to conduct joint projects and to liaise with internal and external stakeholders (such as legal affairs, cantonal ethics commissions, etc.).
• Good organization skills, and the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.
• The ability to work both independently and in a team, and to adapt to the individual needs of EPFL principal investigators.
• Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills in English.
