Description

The School of Mathematics of the University of Geneva is inviting applications for a position of Assistant (tenure track) or Associate Professor (PAST-PAS) in mathematics, with a preference for subjects related to analysis and probability. Excellent candidates in other areas of mathematics will also be considered.

The advertised position is full time, tenured for Associate Professor and tenure track for Assistant Professor. The position involves teaching at the Bachelor, Master and post-graduate level, supervising Master and PhD theses, developing research at the highest international level, securing external funding and taking up administrative and organizational duties in the School.

The successful candidate should be able to develop a broad and independent line of research on topics of interest of the School of Mathematics. She/He is expected to contribute to the excellent international scientific reputation of the University of Geneva

• PhD in sciences or equivalent degree.

• Publications in top international mathematics journals.

Welcome to the Research Fellowship : Experimental Physics.
The Research Fellowship Programme is aimed at PhD holders in the fields of experimental physics which have up to 6 years’ experience after obtaining their PhD degree. Research Fellowships are intended for PhD graduates looking to work in a research group.

Your responsibilities
The Radiation Protection ( RP ) Group of the Occupational Health and Safety and Environmental Protection ( HSE ) Unit ensures that personnel on the CERN sites and the public are protected from potentially harmful effects of ionizing radiation linked to CERN activities. The duties of CERN’s Radiation Protection Group include the assessment of radiation hazards from operating accelerators and experiments, the definition of protective measures as well as the legally required monitoring of the exposure of radiation workers and public to ionising radiation.
You will join the HSE-RP-AS (Accelerator & Site) section who is in charge of all radiation protection aspects related to the design and operation of accelerators and experimental areas at CERN. This role would primarily be based at the Prévessin Site .

• Support the team activities by performing radiation survey measurements.

• Take part in the ALARA preparation and follow-up of activities in Radiation Areas.

• Conduct measurements and radiation protection follow-up in preparation and during the Long-Shutdown 3.

Qualifications

You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State .


You have completed at least 18 months/3 semesters of your undergraduate studies at the time of the next student selection round taking place in November 2025.


You remain registered as a full-time student during the internship.


You have a good knowledge of English or French.
Additional Information
CERN would very much like to benefit from your expertise, commitment and passion. In return, CERN will provide you with:


A contract of association from 4 to 12 months.


An allowance of 3452 Swiss Francs per month (net of tax).


A travel allowance.


Depending on your personal circumstances, a supplement if you are married and/or have children.

2,5 days of paid leave per month.

Job Description
Your responsibilities
Join the ATLAS Central Detector Control System (DCS) team to help develop robust online control and monitoring software for one of the world’s most advanced scientific experiments.
You will work with hardware and sub-detector teams to integrate diverse technologies into a cohesive “slow control” infrastructure and contribute to major HL-LHC upgrade efforts. You will also participate in commissioning new underground installations, ensure operational continuity through on-call duties, and support ATLAS and HL-LHC runs.
Key responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain OPC UA servers and SCADA control software for online data exchange.

• Integrate communication protocols (CAN, SPI, I²C, Modbus) into a unified control framework.

• Optimise C++ software on Linux using DevOps tools (Git, CMake, CI/CD).

• Support system commissioning, troubleshooting, and on-call operations for ATLAS and HL-LHC upgrades.

Your profile
Skills:

• Strong proficiency in modern C++ (C++11 and later), with solid understanding of memory management, concurrency, and design patterns.

• Proven experience developing, debugging, and optimising distributed or “online” control software on Linux.

• Familiarity with common C++ development tools and workflows, including Git, CMake, and continuous integration.

• Basic understanding of hardware-software integration in industrial or scientific environments.

• Practical knowledge of OPC UA SDKs and SCADA platforms (WinCC OA preferred) would be an asset.

Internship –Business Analyst in Interest Rate Risk and ALM Implementation – (6 months)

As a Business Analyst Intern, you will  integrate the Regulatory Reporting and Risk Management development team within the Technology and Operations Unit based in Geneva. You will actively participate in the implementation of interest rate risk software for our BPO and the deployment of ALM solution for the Bank. This internship is a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the banking sector and gain valuable experience in risk management and data analysis.

YOUR ROLE


Contribute to the implementation of a software solution designed for the IRRBB Swiss reporting, including participation in the testing, deployment , and integration processes


Assist in the implementation of ALM strategies in the software by contributing to stress testing scenarios, cash flow modeling, and sensitivity analysis of interest rates


Work closely with risk and finance teams to ensure consistency and compliance in the processes implemented.


Help with drafting procedures and documenting processes related to interest rate risk management, software implementation, and ALM.

YOUR PROFILE


Graduated or you are currently pursuing a Master’s degree in finance, risk management, economics, financial engineering, or related field.


Strong ability to analyse and interpret complex financial data, with excellent proficiency in Excel. Knowledge of risk management tools, financial modeling, and software implementation is a plus.


Understanding of interest rate risk , ALM concepts, and banking financial products is preferred.


Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with good communication skills and a collaborative mindset.


Proficiency in French and Fluent in English.


Resident in Switzerland or willing to relocate to Switzerland.

Job Description
Your responsibilities
The Mechanical and Materials Engineering (EN-MME) group, within the Engineering Department ( EN ), is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to perform engineering studies and calculations for the HL-LHC Crab Cavities.
The crab cavities are superconductive cavities that will be installed in the LHC during the next long shutdown, top optimisation the collision angle between the colliding beams, and increase the machine luminosity. The HL-LHC WP4 is the work package (WP) dedicated to the design, production, testing and installation of the crab cavities. This includes the other components of the cryomodule such as helium tank, magnetic and thermal screens, vacuum tank, tuning system, power coupler and HOM lines, as well as instrumentation for the survey.
You will join the WP4 engineering team with the main task of providing engineering support to the development and fabrication of the crab cavity cryomodule systems. Examples of the calculations required include structural, thermal, multiphysics (e.g. RF simulations coupled with thermal and structural simulations), shock and vibration simulations, as well as analytical computations.
You will participate to the regular project meetings, presenting the results of your studies and actively contributing to the advancement of the project. You will also be required to prepare reports and technical notes, to document the work done.
Your profile
Skills:

• Proven experience with finite element analysis software for thermal and structural simulations (e.g., ANSYS, COMSOL).

• Ability to analyse and interpret simulation data to guide design decisions and understand operational failure mechanisms.

• Understanding of the behaviour and design principles of ductile and brittle materials at room and low temperatures.

• Some initial experience with 3D CAD software (e.g. CATIA).

• Knowledge of superconductivity and RF principles would be an asset.

• Familiarity with International Standards dealing with the design and safety of structural and pressure equipment would be an asset.

• Attitude to teamwork in a multidisciplinary environment.

• Excellent communication and documentation skills.

• Spoken and written English, with a commitment to learn French.
